    Beautiful Surroundings

    Welcome to our world of calm, tucked away on the Cornwall Devon border, on the edge of Dartmoor and in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

    The perfect setting for an adventure to easily explore two beautiful counties in the South West. The Arundell's unique location offers a chance for you to not only fish in our private rivers, but to enjoy our beautiful gardens, and the surrounding countryside.

    Then return to the hotel to dine with us, enjoy the beautiful gardens in the mid-summer evening sun or retire to the drawing room for a night cap and a spot of cribbage.

    Explore the Moors this Summer

    A trip to us this summer would not be complete without visiting the beauty of nearby Dartmoor.

    Dartmoor is home to a fantastic diversity of wildlife and habitats, much of it rare and protected. The special habitats on Dartmoor are a result of the geology of the moor and the influences of people over 4,000 years. With 2021 marking 70 years since Dartmoor became a National Park.

    We have partnered with two local companies that offer you a different way to explore the moors;

    1. Cycling the Granite Way

    The Granite Way is an 11 mile (easy -moderate) multi-use trail running between Okehampton and Lydford along the north western edge of Dartmoor. It is mostly traffic free, largely following the route of the former Southern Region railway line. A journey along the Granite Way offers fantastic views of the granite landscape of Dartmoor, as well as a number of specific sites of geological interest.

    Okehampton and Lydford offer great sight seeing opportunities too with English Heritage's Okehampton Castle and the National Trust's Lydford Gorge, that feeds into our own fishing beats along the River Lyd.

    A day out on the Granite Way is an essential Dartmoor experience, suitable for all ages. A spectacular way to enjoy Dartmoor that is mostly traffic free. The route is part of the National Cycle Network ‘Devon Coast to Coast’ Route 27.

    2. Horse Riding across the Moors

    Cholwell Riding Stables is a family-run business that has been providing escorted rides and riding lessons on Dartmoor for nearly forty years.

    Perfectly located to ride straight out onto Dartmoor with no need for any road work. This allows you to enjoy your whole ride on the moor and admire its breathtaking views.

    Cholwell cater for all types of rider from the complete novice to the most experienced rider and have a wide selection of quality, fit and well-mannered horses.

    Picnic in Style

    The Arundell Deli can provide a delicious picnic together with a picnic hamper and a blanket to make your day extra special.  Just order your picnic with The Deli or Reception the day before.
