The Arundell’s 20 miles of water are all spate rivers which rise on the moors and come down to our valleys through woods and farmland, becoming larger, deepening, providing an infinite variety of water, long slow pools, gravelly runs and stickles, fast shallows and open glides. In springtime the banks are a blaze of colour – daffodils and bluebells – and there are few days when you do not see kingfishers and buzzards, herons or dippers. With over 20 private beats you can be alone all day fishing a mile of your own stretch of river. Here are the true wild brown trout of Devon – small shy fish that rise eagerly to the fly. By late spring the first salmon arrive and in mid-summer, shoals of sea trout bring out the night fishers. The brown trout and sea trout fishing is exceptional, with a salmon being a real prize.
The Arundell waters have been called a fisherman’s paradise, with many guests coming back year after year for these totally wild waters and the fish that swim in them. We specialise in teaching flyfishing, and welcome anyone who wants to try their hand at this magical pursuit.
