What’s On at the Arundell

Family Days Out in Devon & Cornwall

Cornwall and Devon are popular for staycations this Summer, and we understand why families are picking this beautiful part of the country to spend family time together.

We know that sometimes it’s useful to have list of things to do with the kids in the summer holidays, for slow days, tired days or even rainy days. The Arundell is perfectly located in easy drive of the countryside, the unique Dartmoor moors and the beach.

So we have put together our Top 5 days out to visit with the family, recommended by our very own The Arundell team. We also offer a Picnic Service that will be freshly prepared by The Deli on the day and packed in your very own picnic basket for the day, just pre-order with reception before 4pm the day before.

Less than an hour from the hotel, set in the Dartmoor National Park, it’s the perfect setting for all kinds of outdoor activities, letting the kids truly run wild. Playgrounds are located all around the park, meaning there’s an adventure around every corner! Features include a Commando Assault Course, Jungle Fun, Zip wires, Snake slides, Pirate Ship, Toddlers Beach, and a wooden play fort! What is not to love.

A fabulous destination for a rainy day, and the venue for the recent G7 Summit dinner with the world leaders and the Queen. The Eden Project is a top eco-visitor attraction, built from a reclaimed china clay pit. It consists of two biomes; one housing the largest indoor rainforest and the second, a Mediterranean environment. The site is vast and also has an outside botanical garden home to many plants and wildlife native to Cornwall. This summer Eden have a summer celebration of pop-up performance and theatre – from carnival and parkour, to story-telling and dance – inspired by Eden’s unique setting. A great visit for any age, a place to truly spend the whole day. Plus Eden’s admission ticket is valid for a year from the day you select to visit – a perfect reason to visit again – for free!

Less than a ten minute drive from the hotel. Trethorne has over an acre of outdoor play areas, farm animals to meet and indoor play barns. It’s a great place for younger children and such an easy drive from the hotel.

A woodland Adventure Golf with 18 holes of mini golf to conquer, streams to tackle and magic trees to avoid! The China Fleet also has a full size golf course, indoor swimming pool and spa. The China Fleet Club is located in Cornish town, Saltash 45 minutes from the hotel. Saltash is famous for the Brunel Bridge, built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and has a great waterfront area to enjoy with views over the Tamar.

Have fun with the family on this cycle ride which follows the route of an old Great Western Railway track. From the edge of Plymouth, you plunge straight into glorious oak woodland before emerging out into open countryside. The trail leads you past dramatic industrial remains, including towering quarry faces, and across breathtaking viaducts. You’ll get a taste of the invigorating moorland fresh air.

This summer we have also partnered with Devon Cycles and Cholwell Riding Stables, offering you the chance to explore Dartmoor by bicylce or horse. Find out more.
