  • Welcome to the UK's premier sporting hotel.

We are absolutely delighted to be open again and welcoming guests. We are honoured to have opened with renowned chef, Ashley Wright at the helm and it is fantastic to see the fabulous food coming out of the kitchen. Whether fishing our rivers, riding, cycling or walking on the moors, the beauty of the Devon countryside is being enjoyed by all.

    Hotel

A former coaching inn, The Arundell is nestled in the centre of Devon and Cornwall, on the side of the old A30, on the Devon side of the River Tamar. Its central location and its reputation for fantastic food and a relaxed atmosphere have long attracted travelers, fishers, lovers of the countryside and those looking to explore the region.

The village of Lifton is is also surrounded by some of England’s best wild and unspoilt fishing and countryside and is often referred to as the home of West Country Fly Fishing. Since 1932, it has enjoyed the reputation of being one of the UK’s top sporting hotels and we are honoured that many of our guests are second or third generations of 'The Arundell Family".

The hotel has 20 miles of rivers for wild fly fishing and expert guides to provide tuition and advice.  To explore our beautiful countryside we organise and arrange rambling, cycling and moorland riding and can provide both driven and rough shooting, and moorland stalking.

Just as important, the hotel is renowned for its excellent food, whether in our award winning restaurant, cosy bar or the newly opened Deli. Our focus is on local, seasonal and wild ingredients with the best of Devon and Cornish produce at its heart.

    Our Food

The Arundell Restaurant has a long-standing reputation as one of the best restaurants in Devon and Cornwall and has won many awards. The kitchen offers an Anglo-French repertoire which has a traditional foundation and relies on the very best of local and seasonal ingredients. There is a gentle richness to the dishes which are superbly executed and full of flavour. Open every day for breakfast and dinner, the restaurant is renowned for relaxed fine dining.

A cosy lunch can be enjoyed by the warmth of the log fire in our bar, which is dog-friendly and is also open every evening for drinks and 'bitings'. In summer we have al fresco eating in the gardens overlooking the historic cock-fighting pit.

    Our Fishing

    Fishing

The Arundell has been one of England’s leading fishing hotels for almost a century and has over 20 miles of its own water on the Tamar and six of its tributaries. Its unique location in the valley of the seven rivers provides an unparalleled variety of wild fly-fishing for brown trout, sea-trout, grayling and salmon. The charm of the rivers is that they are wild and all are within easy reach of the hotel, which is ideal for fishing holidays, those learning to fish and the keen fisher!

The Arundell offers more than 20 private beats, each one providing almost a mile of private fishing for the day. Our ghillies provide expert tuition and guidance.  Mornings at The Arundell Cockpit are busy with Alex and David allocating beats and giving advice on the water and the fly.  Tackle, equipment and flies are available to buy or hire.  We offer fly-fishing tuition and courses for the absolute beginner right through to the most experienced and many of our long-standing guests learned to cast their first fly at The Arundell.

    Our Shooting

    Shooting

The Arundell continues to be a favourite destination for shooting parties. For both game shooting (partridge, pheasant, snipe and woodcock) and deer stalking our approach is that the camaraderie, hospitality and food are as important an element to your day as the sport itself.

All our shooting is either arranged by the hotel or is in collaboration with well-established local shoots. These hand selected estates all share our philosophy, and focus on safety, quality and presenting sporting birds to the guns.
